One of the most enjoyable and easiest ways to see the city of Mazatlan is to take a tour! There are many companies that specialize in taking tourists and cruise ship passengers to the famous -- and less-famous -- attractions that The Pearl of The Pacific and the nearby communities of Rural Sinaloa have to offer.

In addition to Mazatlan city tours and cruise ship shore excursions, some operators go further afield and offer tours to great rural Sinaloa locations outside the city like El Quelite; Stone Island; tequila tours to La Noria; Mazatlan whale watching and Mazatlan dolphin watching cruises; snorkeling at Deer Island; kayaking excursions; bird watching; and archeology tours that visit the Las Labradas petroglyphs.

Consider taking Mazatlan tours and leave the driving to them!

La Rosa de Las Barras Rural Sinaloa tours and excursions from a boutique spa hotel
Information about tours of Rural Sinaloa, visits to mountain villages, and archeology tours

La Rosa de Las Barras is an intimate beach front retreat in the center of the main beach of the small fishing village of Barras de Piaxtla, one hour north of Mazatlan on the Sinaloa coast.

Barras de Piaxtla is a tiny fishing village with just a few hundred residents. The village does have electricity and running water, but the residents live much as they have since colonial times, with ranching and fishing their primary sources of food and income.

Many of the village homes are very rustic and are constructed with slender strips of local wood that are woven into walls and roofs.

The town is also the location of Punta Piaxtla and its' lighthouse, which is the first lighthouse north of El Faro in Mazatlan and one of very few on the coast of Sinaloa. The lighthouse overlooks a delightful small protected bay, which is where the local fishermen moor their boats and return with their daily catch.

The La Rosa de Las Barras hotel / retreat specializes in pampering the spirit and the body -- and in explorations of rural Sinaloa.

La Rosa de Las Barras tours of Sinaloa include delightful excursions to San Ignacio, Labor, San Javier and other Sinaloan mountain villages and archeology tours to the Las Labradas petroglyphs.

Schooner Patricia Belle Mazatlan sailing excursions
Information about sailing trips, sunset cruises, dinner cruises, and bay sailing tours

Looking for a different kind of Mazatlan tour? Experience the smooth sailing of the Schooner Patricia Belle while sailing on the only Schooner in The Pearl of The Pacific offering a Sunset Cruises, Bay Sailing Tours, Deer Island Tours and Mazatlan Dinner Cruises.

The Patricia Belle is an 82' schooner designed by Buehler and Hughes and launched in Puget Sound in 1997. With 3000 sf of sail and supplimentary propulsion from her 4-71 GMC deisel engine, the Patricia Belle makes passengers feel safe and secure. Her massive hard chine hull has a sweet motion at sea. Almost stately, the Schooner Patricia Belle makes no sharp moves, no lurches. She lulls one into a sleepy, lazy, carefree attitude.

The Patricia Belle is the creation of the passion and vision of her owner / builder / captain Pat Hughes. Pat Hughes has been a professional mariner for over 38 years. He has worked and run everything from tug boats to tankers, ferry boats to tall ships, and most everything else in between. However, his love has always been for the beautiful lines of a traditional sailing vessel and to that end he slowly acquired the massive amount of Douglas fir needed (the masts were cut down from his own back yard) until he was ready to build the Patricia Belle.

out of the Mazatlan Marina

This incredibly stout black-hulled schooner -- named after Captain Hughes mother -- has voyaged to Central America, South America, Caribbean, Bahamas and beyond, including a side trip to Hawaii. The Schooner Patricia Belle even carried a 10,000 lb cargo of coffee beans from Nicaragua back up to San Diego...and sold it all off at the dock to crowds of highly appreciative local coffee freaks! A truly unique boat, sailing excursions aboard the Patricia Belle offer truly unique Mazatlan island tours and a way to tour our waters!
