Mazatlan Mexico bar informationMazatlan is home to many bars, wine bars, cantinas, sports bars, pubs and saloons.

Most of our 24 recommended Mazatlan bars are long-established businesses, and the newer ones have proven themselves with their rapid popularity.

Many of our bars have Happy Hours -- some of which start remarkably early in the day! -- and our best bars are increasingly offering unusual gourmet micro-brewery beers, vintage wines and imported premium spirits. Lots also offer full menus of delicious bar-food.

A number offer free WiFi -- a big plus for Americans, Canadians, Europeans, cruise ship passengers and spring breakers who want to send smart phone photos and video to friends back home to show them in real-time all the fun they are missing.

That real-time can be almost any time of day.

Mazatlan bars often open early -- sometimes offering remarkably early happy hours -- and also often stay open rather late, serving as the lubricant of the nightlife of the port.

Information and reviews of the best Mazatlan bars in the Centro Historico

Heriberto Frías 1305 / On the Plaza Machado / Centro Historico

Café Pacifico bar in Mazatlan is located on the Plaza Machado in the Centro Historico.

This long-time Plaza Machado favorite has undergone a total remodeling. A real tradition among Mazatlan bars with a lovely dark interior and great selection of wine and spirits, the new look includes new music, mostly 60's, 70's and 80's pop. Now decorated with large televisions showing retro music videos, the new Café Pacifico / Vintage Retro Bar promises fun at all hours. There is a DJ booth and -- on special nights -- a live DJ.

The menu is styled Sinaloa Fusion, and food is available after 5pm. Like some of the other of our recommended Mazatlan bars, Café Pacifico / Vintage Retro Bar also has a free pool (table)!

Cantina Tertulia Recommended Mazatlan Cantina in 2014
Information about recommended cantinas in the Mazatlan Mexico Centro Historico

Belasario Dominguez 1414 / Centro Historico

Cantina Tertulia in Mazatlan -- technically, La Tertulia Cantina Museo Taurino -- is one of the Centro Historico's most interesting Mazatlan bars, and is consistently well reviewed.

Housed in a classic Centro Historico building at the corner of Constitución and Belisario, Cantina Tertulia is a bullfight-extravaganza, with bull heads hanging above tables in the main room. The walls are covered with posters and photos of bullfights. Bulls are, simply, everywhere.

But this bar is far more than "bullfight-themed". Rene Tirado runs the Cantina Tertulia and he -- as well as many other members of the staff -- have bull fighting experience and love to share stories with interested customers.

The upstairs of this eclectic bar leads to a narrow outdoor balcony that wraps around the building and provides a perfect perch for people watching in the Centro Historico.

Drinks at the Cantina Tertulia bar are very inexpensive, with beer under 1 USD and outstanding mixed drinks similarly value-priced!

Alone among our recommended Mazatlan cantinas, bars and pubs, Cantina Tertulia thrives without a telephone: imagine that?

Edgars Bar & Cantina in Mazatlan offers a taste of Old Mazatlan Mexico.

Edgars has been a mainstay in The Pearl of The Pacific since 1949, and at times it seems that the clock stopped there in the 1950s. Old men sing karaoke beneath vintage photographs in this Mazatlan bar, and giant shrimp are brought to your table in buckets.

Located near the central food market in the Centro Historico, Edgars Bar in Mazatlan mostly attracts business people and some tourists and visitors. Around mid-afternoon Edgars serves a Botana -- an appetizer -- free. Some days the Botana is a meat stew with rice and refried beans and tacos; sometimes it is marlin stew; or a Mexican version of meatball soup; or a shrimp soup; or it might be a Mexican salad with seafood mixed in.

One of the most traditional of Mazatlan Bar / Cantinas, Edgars' walls are covered with historic photos of The Pearl of The Pacific and -- according to the sign on the door -- women are welcome!

Edgar's is open from about 9am until midnight, daily.
